About the Author

Michael Liu is a third-year medical student at Weill Cornell Medicine whose personal journey undergoing and recovering from heart surgery during his clerkship year sparked his interest in works that focused on positive realism. Through his love of digital art and outer space, he created a children's book, I Can Do Hard Things, where he hopes to assure all post-surgery that they can do hard things. While the recovery is arduous, he believes that the human ability to persevere and change is, dare one say, out of this world.
